Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien decided to let his team have some fun Monday afternoon when they played a game of baseball. There were five teams and four players on each side for the majority of practice, elimination style.
The winning team was captained by Alex Galchenyuk featuring Max Pacioretty, P.K. Subban, Alexei Emelin and Andre Markov.
Therrien explained to Matt Cudzinowski he wanted to get some fun into practice, "I played the game in Granby and Laval, too. It’s a game that we use to relax things. I believe strongly in having good atmosphere and good team spirit. Those things need to be maintained, too. We got together as a coaching staff this morning, and thought this would be an ideal time to do it.”
Forward Max Pacioretty felt the same way, "It’s definitely needed right now. We’re all battling. We all want to win. We all want to play the right way. It’s just frustrating that we’re not really finding it. Coming in here, instead of being worried, we’re kind of relaxing while still working hard out there playing that."
Defenseman P.K. Subban also chimed in who credited his team's win to the careful draft selections of captain Alex Galchenyuk. "It’s all fun. It’s good to be able to play games like that in practice. You don’t see that too much in pro. You could see guys are still competitive. They want to win. It was fun."
The Montreal Canadiens have won three of their last five and play the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday night.
