Major League Baseball's 2019 Rule 5 Draft concluded the winter meetings in San Diego. Teams were able to make a selection provided they had space available on the 40-man roster.
Players selected are automatically added to their new team's 25-man roster and must be placed on outright waivers to be removed during the ensuing season. Should that player clear waivers, he must be offered back to his previous club for $50,000 and can only be sent to the minors if that team does not wish to re-acquire him.
Here are the 11 selections made, excluding the minor-league phase. Clubs that did not make picks are marked with N/A:
|4||Royals||Stephen Woods Jr.||RHP||TB|
|17||Red Sox||Jonathan Arauz||SS||HOU|
* The Philadelphia Phillies traded Vimael Machin to the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations following the conclusion of the draft.
The Baltimore Orioles selected RHP Michael Rucker from the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the major-league phase.
