The Boston Red Sox have been in touch with former manager Alex Cora multiple times since Tuesday, sources told Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.

While the Red Sox are currently in the hunt for a new skipper, it's unclear if Cora is being seriously considered to return. And if he is a candidate for the job, he's not alone.

Boston had reportedly identified seven managerial candidates, not including Cora. Some have already been told they are no longer under consideration while others have received second interviews, Speier notes.

Cora just finished a one-year suspension for his role in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal in 2017 when he was a bench coach with the club.

The Red Sox hired him ahead of the 2018 campaign, and he went on to win the World Series in his first season as manager.

Cora went 192-132 in two seasons with the Red Sox before Ron Roenicke replaced him. Roenicke was not retained for the 2021 season after Boston went 24-36 in 2020.
