Nuggets ink Porter to 5-year max extension
Porter's new deal will kick in following the 2021-22 season, during which he's on the Nuggets' books for just $5.3 million.
After missing what would've been his rookie season in 2018-19 due to lingering injuries and then mostly coming off the bench in 2019-20, the 23-year-old broke out last year, placing third in voting for the Most Improved Player Award.
Porter averaged 19 points and 7.3 rebounds per game with scorching 44.5% accuracy on 3-pointers while starting 54 of his 61 appearances for Denver last season.
With star guard Jamal Murray expected to miss at least most of 2021-22 while recovering from a torn ACL, Porter should serve as one of the team's biggest contributors on offense behind reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic.
Porter appeared to mark the occasion of his big payday with a highlight reel of his offseason workouts.
