Maryland, coach Turgeon part ways after 10-plus seasons
Danny Manning, who joined Turgeon's staff in April, will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season, starting with Sunday's game versus Northwestern.
"Maryland Basketball has been my passion and focus for the last 10 seasons, and I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished," Turgeon said in a statement. "It is through the combined effort and commitment from our coaches and players, both past and present, that we have sustained consistent success in a sport that is ultra-competitive."
Turgeon finishes his Terrapins tenure with a 226-116 (.661) record. The program qualified for five of the six editions of the NCAA Tournament held from 2015-2021, including a Sweet 16 run in 2016.
The team is currently 5-3 to start the 2021-22 season.
