The Columbus Blue Jackets expect depth forward Nathan Gerbe to be out for four-to-six months after undergoing offseason hip surgery, the team announced Saturday.

Gerbe put up three points in nine games with the Jackets in 2020-21. He spent a lot of time on the taxi squad and with the AHL's Cleveland Monsters, registering 10 points in 13 contests.

The 34-year-old is entering the final campaign of a two-year deal with a cap hit of $750,000. The Buffalo Sabres selected the winger 142nd overall in the 2005 draft, and he has 151 points in 435 career games. He has also previously suited up for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Gerbe will target a midseason return between January and March if he can stick to the expected timeline.
